Choke
The Smallman tour was CRAZY. Both of the shows were amazing, all the bands had me jumping in the pit and losing it (SOBER). The all-ages was a little more tame, but not by much. I didn't see Tylor there, I looked around every chance I got but I wasnt moving from the front of the stage. I had my front row spot from Brazil straight to Choke. I had a good time, I wish everybody wasn't such jerkfaces and would of came to both shows. Pfff, fucking alcoholics. Standing by myself is fucking awful, there isnt really much room for conversations at shows but those minutes inbetween the sets, holy out of place. I'm sort of used to going to shows by myself, but this was Choke. It was just different. The not drinking at all didn't help either.
BUUUUUUUUUUUT. The music more than made up for it though. I'll get into the music portion of the blog towards the end. First... THE DRAMA. Drunk people don't seem to get the concept that once you've reached the front of the stage, there is no wheres to go. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all about the mosh pits, give 'er good. But what's the point of just lying on top of each other and crushing the people closest to the stage? You can't even mosh because you can't move.
I got hit in the head with a beer bottle about halfway through Choke's set, and got my earrings ripped out of my ears, so that was enough for me. I scrambled my way out of the mass of bodies and went to sit by the big screen to keep watching. When all of a sudden I see Savannah's boyfriend put her over his shoulders and jump on stage towards the band room. I got really scared and ran all the way there, its fun to push people out of the way when you really don't give a fuck. Concern put fire in my ass.
It would seem that the crushing got so intense, that Savannah broke a rib or two, couldn't breathe and blacked out. And since everybody is a drunk idiot they just left her there until Rob finally noticed she wasn't moving anymore. Whew. After explaining to the bouncers that she was my roommate. I went backstage and she was lying in the band room catching her breath. Nick the lead singer of Brazil kept us company and well entertained, what a great guy, very drunk too. I got to meet all the bands, they were all pretty drunk and concerned about Savannah. It was hilarious, Savannah couldn't talk because it hurt too much, so I did most of it.
I have to say Choke's lead singer has an amazing beard, its spectacular. Thank god for being sober and coherent, well me, not the bands. They were like smashing bottles and glasses in the garbage, and drinking their faces off. I was like.. "so this is the excitement of the band room eh?". It was the lead singer of The Reason's birthday too, everybody kept buying rounds of shots for the band.
ALL AROUND CRAZY.
Anyways, drama aside, what a fantastic show. Brazil was awesome, tight and really on the ball. I love any band that can incorporate piano/keyboard whatever you want to call it. Ghost of Modern Man blew me away at the all-ages so I bought the cd. When it came time for the bar show, the guitarist who sold me the cd dedicated a song to me (awww). The Reason was spectacular as usual, I knew what to expect and was not disapointed.
Choke... *sigh* they played Recoil which made my fucking night. Both times. I don't even know what to say anymore, all the adjectives I know I used up. They blew me away, talk about a band that still knows what they're doing after 11 years. Soooooooooo, I left there with a few posters, my health, and 2 new cds (Ghost of Modern Man and FOREWORD!!, I think I'm more excited about the FOREWORD, then the other one, even though I've heard it too many times) What more could you ask for?
I wish I was, rock it out in Moncton. One last thing, since when do bars not give out water? I was really pissed off, I just payed 10$ to get in here and I can't get a fucking glass of water? The words "Can I speak to someone in charge" changed their minds though. I wasnt going to start drinking at 11 oclock, besides, between drinking and merch, I choose merch.
Crazy fucking night.
